At CPAC 2007, I had the opportunity to listen to nearly all of the individuals bidding for the GOP Presidential candidacy. I had the privilege of listening to, Rep. Duncan Hunter, Rep. Tom Tancredo, Sen. Sam Brownback, Gov. Mike Huckabee, Gov. Mitt Romney, Gov. James Gilmore, and John Cox. Mayor Giuliani also spoke at CPAC, yet due to events, I did not hear his speech. Of those I heard, the most eloquent was Gov. Mike Huckabee. He spoke the right things in a way that connected personally to the audience. Coming behind him was Mitt Romney. He did not have the same connection as Huckabee, yet he exuded enthusiasm and hope. With that said, neither is my current choice for the GOP candidacy. They spoke the right things and spoke them well, yet anyone can do that. With less of the eloquence of Huckabee and Ronmey, I saw the qualities I believe will lead America in the years to come in Rep. Duncan Hunter. More of a to the point man, he has a record of border security and of being a military hawk. While others talk about building a wall on the border, he actually has built a wall for his constituencies in California. He has expressed an understanding of the war and probably knows it better than most (His son has served two tours in Iraq). In addition to this, he is an ardent supporter of the unborn. For now, I will leave it at that, yet be assured, I will talk more of this man as time progresses. Though I will keep a close eye on all of the candidates, I will be watching Hunter with get expectancy.
